Sustainability and Sourcing
We strive to produce the lowest environmental impact by eliminating harmful chemicals from our dying process, maximizing our material utilization and utilizing 100% recyclable packaging that goes from our crinkle papers to all of our boxes.
All of our products are made in Colombia where our leather artisans enjoy a healthy work environment, with paid social security, healthcare, holidays and vacations. As a matter of fact, Colombia has the most public holidays in the world along with India and the Philippines. This year in 2017 there are 13 Monday holidays. When this happens, Colombians call it “Puente” which means “Bridge” or a bridged holiday weekend from Friday until Tuesday. All these 13 bridged weekends have to be paid by law to every formal employee.
We support our local community as much as we can ranging from local non-profits like Tails of Hope in NJ to more global organizations like the International Rescue Committee and Doctors Without Borders. One of our latest events that we proudly collaborated in was the Tails of Hope beach BBQ bash that took place on Sep 30. Tails of hope is a non-profit organization that rescues homeless animals and provides vet care, training, adoption services among other types of assistance.
Despite that the Caña Flecha weaving handicraft is considered a national symbol, many of these artisans live in very impoverished areas and can barely make ends meet with their craft. At Desisano we believe in the universal law of giving and receiving, that’s why we will donate a percentage of our profits to efforts aimed at education in rural impoverished areas in Colombia and programs that contribute to the conservation of native indigenous artisanal development.
